What Is A Simple Gift That A Young Child Can Make For a Holiday Present?

If late November is all about being “thankful”, then the next stop on the holiday train for children should be all about “giving”.  As the December holidays approach, children cqn happily create presents for their families with recycled materials, paint, ribbon, and glitter.   

A wonderful holiday gift that is easy for young children to make and one that looks great is a wooden “cookie” ornament. “Cookie” refers to the sawed-off bottom of a pine tree trunk, which can be collected from Christmas tree lots.  (It is important to let them dry out indoors for a day or two before using.)

I’ve been collecting them for years for art projects such as this, and for use as building blocks and other creative play.  Putting these fun little pieces of nature to good use also reinforces the concept of “reuse and recycle” that we strive to impart!
